Margam Country Park

Port Talbot

Location:

Margam, Neath Port Talbot, SA13 2TJ

Situated in 800 acres of beautiful countryside, the estate is home to the magnificent 19th-century Tudor-Gothic Margam Castle, the former residence of the Talbot family. There’s also the restored 18th-century Orangery and the ruins of the 12th-century Margam Abbey.

Young members of the family will love the child-size cottages and castle in Fairytale Land, and the well-equipped adventure playground will give them plenty of opportunity to let off steam.

Animal lovers will enjoy the farm trail, featuring rare breed creatures great and small. 3 breeds of deer, including the endangered Père David deer, roam freely over around half of the park.

Dogs are welcome with responsible owners and, if they manage to get a bit – or a lot – mucky on their walkies, there’s a self-service dog wash facility to save you and your car from the inevitable ‘mud-shake’!

Thrill-seekers can get their kicks at the only Go Ape! Treetop Challenge in Wales, on the UK’s largest Tarzan Swing – complete with 20ft freefall – and zip wires up to 180m. There’s also a range of activities like bushcraft, canoeing, mountain biking and raft-building available at Margam Park Adventure.

And if you’re just looking for some time out from the world (or the rest of the family!), a walk through the ornamental gardens is highly recommended.
