National Trust Aberdulais Tin Works and Waterfall

Neath

Location:

Aberdulais Falls, Main Road, Aberdulais, Neath

The picturesque waterfall is at the heart of this former tinplate works, where hydro power has been harnessed since 1584. The waterwheel still generates enough electricity to power the site. Copper, textiles and grain have all been processed here, but it was the revolutionary new technology developed here for the manufacture of tinplate that put Aberdulais firmly on the map. It may be tranquil now, but in its heyday, the scene would have been one of immense heat, dust, noise and dirt.
