Port Talbot developed as an industrial town because of its location on the River Afan. Today, the High Street with its range of good quality restaurants, cafes and pubs links via a covered walkway into the indoor shopping centre.

The Princess Royal Theatre is a cultural venue located at the heart of the town centre and hosts well known comedy acts and theatrical performances.
