Adventure Awaits in Neath’s Gnoll Estate Country Park

The Dramatic Heart of Wales is known for its wealth of green spaces, from woodland and fields through to parks and country estates. Gnoll Estate Country Park, with its 200 acres of picturesque parkland is one of the highlights of any trip to the Dramatic Heart of Wales.

 

If you’re visiting on a Saturday, why not bring your trainers and get involved in the 5km Gnoll Parkrun which starts at 9am each week. There’s also a well-established orienteering course at the Gnoll. Swansea Bay Orienteering Club have set up a 26 point route through the Park. Join them on July 10th at 10am for an introduction to orienteering designed specifically for newcomers and those with limited mobility.

 

If you’re visiting with children then make sure you stop at the playgrounds in the Gnoll. It has three well equipped playgrounds aimed at younger and older children, with plenty of equipment for disabled children too. After all that you will have earned a coffee and a snack in the Visitor Centre Café! There’s even a newly refurbished ice cream parlour serving 24 flavours of soft scoop ice cream, including sorbets and dairy free alternatives. There are also regular family fun days at the Gnoll in the school holidays. Check the website for more details when you plan to visit.

 

The Gnoll is also well known for its wildlife, particularly ducks, birds, amphibians and insects. With three ponds, a reservoir and two nature reserves, the Gnoll has many wet areas where wildlife thrives. Frogs, snakes and lizards can be found around the nature reserves while ‘mini-beasts’ of all kinds are present throughout the park.

 

If history is more your passion then you won’t be disappointed at the Gnoll. Delve into the past and learn about Gnoll House and the families that have called it home. You can also visit the landscaped gardens and natural cascade and take in the historic, Cadw listed Halfway House.
