The Dramatic Heart of Wales

This year marks the 100th annual Bike Week. Across the UK, from the 5th to the 11th of June, Bike Week 2023 will be in full spin.

The week is an opportunity to discover, rediscover, and share, a passion for cycling. As a great way to exercise, spend time with your friends and family, and discover the beauty of an area, we certainly have plenty to celebrate this Bike Week.

The Dramatic Heart of Wales is host to some of the UKs most popular, picturesque cycle routes.

Here, we share some of our favourite cycling routes this Bike Week.

The Celtic Trail

The Celtic Trail spans the breadth of South Wales. For our part of the trail, cyclists are offered respite through Margam Country Park and along the Aberavon promenade for an enjoyable, and leisurely ride. This trail is perfect for family bike rides, and of course avid cyclists looking to complete the Celtic Trail.

Cwm Tawe Trail

The Cwm Tawe Cycle Path runs between Clydach and Pontardawe and forms part of the National Cycle Route 43. It is perfect for riders of all abilities. Take in the magical woodland and serene riverbanks as you follow the river Tawe and old railway line across a smooth tarmac track.

Afan Valley

With comparisons drawn to the Swiss slopes, Route 887 is a beloved cycle route in the Dramatic Heart of Wales. This idyllic cycle path takes riders from Aberavon beach to the head of the valley at Glyncorrwg. Picturesque views adorn the 11 miles of forestry track and inviting open green spaces.

The gentle gradient makes this the perfect route for cyclists of all abilities. For riders looking to push themselves further, you can go on to join National Cycle Route 47.

The High Level

The High Level offers a more advanced alternative to the Celtic Trail. Following National Cycle Route 47, The High Level takes riders from the Rhondda Valley through the beautiful Vale of Neath.
