The Dramatic Heart of Wales

This October saw the return of Neath Food and Drink Festival, which was jam-packed with a range of traders from Neath Port Talbot and surrounding areas offering their culinary treats.

The popular two-day event gave food lovers the chance to try the very best of local produce, with everything from ciders and cakes, to burgers and beers on the menu.

Alongside the sweet treats, the festival always brings an abundance of tourism to the area, with visitors able to explore Neath Port Talbot’s diverse food and drink scene.

But it’s undoubtedly the food traders who truly make the weekend the success it is. Here, we caught up with three local businesses who took part in the event to see why Neath Food and Drink Festival is the crème de la crème!

Afal y Graig Artisan Cider & Perry

As a family run, award winning business, Afal y Graig Artisan Cider & Perry specialising in freshly pressed apple and pear cider and perry.

All fruit used in their products are grown in their own orchards, or are locally sourced across Wales. Vegan and gluten free, it’s the perfect drink to pair with the cosy autumn season.

Here’s what they had to say about this year’s event.

“The festival was great! Well organised and the town was booming with people. It was great to see Neath so busy and everyone as a community enjoying themselves. We are from Neath ourselves which makes it extra special for us to be supported by our hometown. Our business had a great weekend!”

Gareth’s Delicious Delights

Based in Neath, Gareth’s Delicious Delights is best known for its homemade chocolate treats and confectionery range.

From truffles and brownies to millionaire shortbread and fudge, they’re truly a chocolate lovers dream.

Here’s their take on this year’s festival.

“We love the Neath Food and Drink Festival. We were especially looking forward to it this year after Covid. It was lovely to see so many people in Neath town centre supporting local businesses, with over 50 traders showing what great products we have.

“There was live music which gave the town an amazing atmosphere, with people supporting the wonderful traders, and also visiting the local bars and cafés to eat and drink. Being local myself, it never fails to attract the community of Neath. We can’t wait for next year!”

Little Goat Brewery

Founded in 2018, Little Goat Brewery have over 50 years of experience in home brewing and a strong passion for great beer. Unconventionally set up in a shed in Ynysmeudwy, the father and son-in law duo have since produced a range of core beers and limited-edition bottle brews.

Here’s what they had to say.

“We thoroughly enjoyed Neath Food & Drink Festival, it’s really nice to have it back. For us, it’s really special as a local business, as it allows us to showcase new and existing products. It’s a great opportunity to supply a local food related festival and it really benefits when the festival is a large, well-attended event like Neath.”
