Afan Valley Angling & Conservation Club

Afan Valley

Afan Valley Angling & Conservation Club offers some of the finest river fishing in the Dramatic Heart of Wales. Founded in 1951, the club provides access to the River Afan, where anglers can enjoy wild brown trout, sewin (sea trout) and salmon fishing along this scenic South Wales valley river. The club is committed to conservation and has played a key role in helping the river recover from its industrial past, supporting a thriving and increasingly healthy fish population.

Fishing is available on sections of the River Afan between Cymmer and Aberavon, with a variety of beats offering opportunities for both experienced anglers and those looking to discover fishing in the valley for the first time. Surrounded by woodland, mountains and peaceful riverside scenery, a day on the Afan provides the perfect opportunity to slow down and connect with nature.

Visitors can purchase day permits and fishing passes through the Fishing Passport scheme, making it easy to plan a trip before arriving. Anglers should familiarise themselves with club rules, permit requirements and national fisheries regulations before fishing. Beat maps and further information are available through the Afan Valley Angling & Conservation Club and Fishing Passport websites. [Link to fishing passport website]

Whether you’re casting for wild brown trout on a quiet spring morning or enjoying an evening in pursuit of sewin during the summer months, the Afan Valley offers a rewarding fishing experience in one of Wales’ most dramatic natural landscapes.
