Margam Country Park

Set within 850 acres of beautiful countryside, Margam Country Park is a place where history, nature and adventure come together. At its heart stands the impressive 19th-century Tudor-Gothic Margam Castle, once home to the Talbot family. Visitors can explore the atmospheric ruins of the 12th-century Margam Abbey and admire the 18th-century Orangery – the longest in Britain at 327 feet.

Families will find plenty to enjoy, from the Fairytale Village with its themed miniature cottages and play areas and giant chess, to the well-equipped Adventure Playground designed for older children. The Farm Trail offers close encounters with friendly animals including alpacas, pygmy goats, ponies, rabbits, pedigree sheep and donkeys with lambs, chicks and piglets appearing during the spring and summer months.

The park is also renowned for its wildlife. Three species of deer – Fallow, Red and the rare Père David’s deer – roam freely across the landscape, offering unforgettable sightings.

Dogs are welcome throughout much of the park when accompanied by responsible owners. A convenient self-service dog wash is available for muddy paws and coats, while the dedicated Margam Bark Play Park provides a safe, enclosed space for off-lead play. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome at the on-site café, Charlotte’s Pantry, which even stocks a selection of dog treats.

For thrill-seekers, Wales’ only Go Ape! Treetop Challenge delivers high-energy excitement, including a six-metre freefall Tarzan Swing and high-speed zip wires up to 180m. A wide range pf outdoor activities is also available from Margam Park Adventure, offering canoeing, mountain biking, paddle boarding and bushcraft.

If a slower pace appeals, the park’s ornamental gardens, woodland trails, tranquil lakes and the scenic Pulpit Viewpoint provide the perfect escape – whether you are seeking quiet reflection or simply a moment of calm.
