Embrace Autumn in the Dramatic Heart of Wales

Autumn has arrived in Neath Port Talbot, the Dramatic Heart of Wales. . The evenings are drawing in a little earlier, the mornings are a little crispier and the first hints of gold and copper are beginning to appear across our valleys, parks and hillsides. While it’s hard to say goodbye to weeks of blue skies and warmth on our skin, autumn brings its own kind of magic!

It’s a season made for putting on a favourite fleece and making the most of woodland walks, strolls along the coast or visiting one of our many seasonal events. Autumn is a wonderful time to explore everything the areas has to offer

Discover Autumn at Melincourt Waterfall

Very few places capture the atmosphere of autumn quite like Melincwrt Waterfalls. Tucked away in the Vale of Neath, this impressive 80-foot waterfall sits at the end of a short woodland walk, making it an accessible adventure for visitors of all ages. With a free public car park right at the start of the trail, there’s every reason to pay it a visit.

As autumn arrives the surrounding woodland becomes a tapestry of gold, amber and deep red. Fallen leaves line the path, while the sound of rushing water follows you through the trees long before the waterfall comes into view. It’s the kind of place that encourages you to slow down for a moment and simply enjoy being outdoors.

There’s something particularly special about visiting after a spell of autumn rain, when the waterfall is at its most powerful and the surrounding landscape feels alive with colour and movement. It’s easy to see why the famous artist J.M.W. Turner found inspiration here all those years ago.
