Family Days Out this Easter Half Term

The flowers are blooming, the sun is (mostly) shining, and the lambs are frolicking – Neath Port Talbot is bursting with life after the long winter slumber!

It can be difficult to come up with lots of exciting adventure ideas over the Easter and May half-term breaks to keep the little ones entertained, especially if you’re planning a trip on a tight budget. Luckily, we’re surrounded by the most beautiful scenery which means that any time you leave your hotel, holiday cottage or campsite, you’re guaranteed to experience something special.

If you’re searching for fun, family-friendly activities this Spring, we’ve got you covered. Keep reading to discover our top picks!

Country Parks

We’ll always recommend a day out at one of our fantastic country parks. Whether you fancy a gentle walk or a cup of coffee, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Starting off with Margam Country Park, it’s famous for its historic castle, herds of deer, and scenic walking trails.

If you have some little thrill seekers in your family, then they’ll love having a go at everything Margam Park Adventure has to offer. Activities include Archery, Go Kart hire, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Kayaking, and so much more!

For families with smaller children, the Margam Park Train is perfect for sitting and watching the scenery go by. The track winds around the park, offering spectacular views of the lake, castle, and wider grounds.

After you’ve enjoyed your train ride, a visit to Margam wouldn’t be complete without exploring The Farm Trail. Meet the friendly animals and even feed them using the feed stations!

Another country park that we love is the Gnoll Country Park in Neath. It’s currently undergoing some rejuvenation to modernise the visitor facilities, however it is still open and boasts some lovely woodland walking trails. With a temporary café in place, you can still grab a coffee and walk around the ponds with your little ones, looking out for the resident ducks and enjoying time outside in nature.

Seaside Adventures

Is it even a bank holiday trip if you don’t have a trip to the seaside? Pack your car up with the beach towels, buckets & spades, and windbreaks, and take yourself and your family to Aberavon Beach for a day of fun.

For the adrenaline seekers, take a spin around the Big Wheel, which is open from now until September, and see right across Swansea Bay towards Mumbles! After this, wear the little ones out on the fairground rides at Studt’s Fun Fair, which is open at Aberavon Beach until 27th April.

If a funfair would be a bit too overstimulating, nothing beats a little walk along the beach, searching for shells and other treasures that have washed ashore. Pop into one of the many beach front restaurants  to fuel your adventures!

Take To The Mountains

For an active break, look no further than Afan Forest Park.

With a range of walking and mountain biking trails, as well as a campsite, it offers the perfect outdoor escape for families who enjoy spending time in nature.

Set in the picturesque Afan Valley, leave the stresses of day-to-day life behind as you escape to the countryside and disconnect from the rest of the world. With bike hire available, as well as other equipment ready for hire, don’t worry if you haven’t got the gear – Afan Forest Park certainly has the idea!
